London, 10 May 2024 – Leading stakeholders from the global insurance industry, Ukrainian government, and development finance institutions convened at the War Risk Insurance Roundtable, co-organised by Kennedys, Syrota Dzis Melnik & Partners, and Spilka, a professional community of English and Ukrainian lawyers. The event brought together senior underwriters, brokers, reinsurers, and representatives from the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) to discuss challenges and opportunities in developing effective war risk insurance solutions for Ukraine.
The discussions addressed the critical gaps in war risk insurance coverage caused by the ongoing conflict and explored collaborative efforts to drive Ukraine’s economic recovery. Highlights included insights from Giulia Monasterio, UK Government Affairs and Policy Advisor at Kennedys, and Katerina Rozhkova, First Deputy Head of the NBU, who presented the Ukrainian government’s proposed war risk insurance framework. Participants examined how public-private partnerships and international reinsurance facilities could help unlock affordable coverage for Ukrainian businesses and investors.
A key takeaway from the roundtable was the consensus on the need for sustained dialogue between Ukrainian governmental bodies and the global insurance market. Participants also acknowledged the importance of fulfilling commitments made under the London Conference Framework for War Risk Insurance to facilitate meaningful progress.The event underscored a shared commitment to addressing Ukraine’s unique challenges, with the goal of fostering a resilient insurance market capable of supporting reconstruction efforts.
